KLOS Guitars manufactures carbon fiber guitars and ukuleles locally in Provo and sells them all over the world via eCommerce, and in so doing disrupts both how guitars have always been made and how guitar manufacturers have always reached the end customer. Adam, an electrical engineer from Princeton University, started KLOS Guitars in 2015 along with his brother, Ian, a mechanical engineer from BYU, with the hope of making carbon fiber guitars more affordable. Through their innovative manufacturing methods and product design decisions, KLOS Guitars released the first carbon fiber instrument priced well under $1000. In addition to their modern take on the guitar, KLOS Guitars' go-to-market strategy has been the reverse of most guitar brands. Rather than first focusing on just manufacturing and letting brick and mortar retailers worry about sales to customers, they started by launching their products online and selling direct to consumers. Only now after four years, 6 crowdfunding campaigns which raised over $1.1 million, and thousands of website sales to over 70 countries and all 50 states, did KLOS Guitars start expanding into physical retail.
